Peggy Monastra, Arts Manager / Consultant Teacher
Peggy Monastra is an arts manager, consultant, and teacher, based in NYC with over 26 years working in the field of contemporary and classical music. She joined the staff of legendary international music publisher G. Schirmer, Inc. /Wise Music Classical in 1993 and currently works as Senior Advisor for Promotion and Opera, (formerly as Artistic Director and Director of Promotion). She also works as Creative Consultant for Opera America and New Works Consultant for Cincinnati Opera and Lyric Opera of Boston; and as advisor to a select number of independent composers. Previous positions include advisory work with Opera Philadelphia on new productions and commissions; Music Specialist at the Library of Congress Music Division and tenures as a secondary teacher of Music History and piano instruction. With a background in piano performance and pedagogy, vocal accompanying, musicology, and gamelan performance, her greatest interest has always been in working with contemporary music in all areas of the performing arts. She has been a member of strategic committees for The Prototype Festival and Opera America’s New Works Forum and is currently on the board of the ensemble Alarm Will Sound and the Ossining Arts Project.
