The New York Youth Symphony has developed an exciting new project designed to expose at-risk and under-privileged youth to the world of classical music and jazz. Get-On Music establishes a connection among our programs and musicians and at-risk youth who may not otherwise have the opportunity to attend high-value cultural performances.

Students from at-risk neighborhoods and schools will be provided complimentary tickets for NYYS performances at Carnegie Hall, Symphony Space and Jazz at Lincoln Center.

Selected musicians meet with the participants, explaining their instruments and the music, describing what it is like to play in an ensemble, and answering questions.
  • Orchestral concerts: groups attend part of the morning dress rehearsal and concert.
  • Jazz and Chamber concerts: groups attend pre-performance meet-and-greet sessions with our musicians as well as the performance.
