New York, NY - The New York Youth Symphony Jazz Band will tour in Brazil from March 18 until March 22, 2016, on its first-ever international tour. Led by director Matt Holman the tour will give the students the opportunity to experience a new land, culture, and customs through the power of music. The NYYS Jazz Band will perform in several venues in São Paulo, including the Auditorio Ibirapuera. The programs will include big band arrangements in honor the co-founder of bebop, trumpeter Dizzy Gillespie including Things to Come, Con Alma and Oop Bop Sh’Bam, as well as jazz arrangements of classical works by Verdi, Brahms, and Bizet. Brian Krock’s Big Wheelie, commissioned by the NYYS, will complete the programs.
